MT4 Brokers
MT4 (MetaTrader 4) is a trading platform which brokers may offer in addition to their own custom platforms or as a stand alone offering. MT4 may tend to be offered by brokers which provide variable spreads and ECN caliber spreads, but fixed spreads can be offered as well. MT4 is a standardised platform, but it allows the trader to add on technical indicators and signals. It also supports copy trading. MT4 has a market of trading robots and supports the creation and running of Expert Advisors (EAs).
MetaTrader 4 integrates MetaQuotes Language 4 (MQL4), a programming language based on C++ which allows the trader to create robots and technical indicators and scripts. As well as Forex and CFD trading, MT4 can provide a platform for spread betting with some brokers, though other brokers may have their own custom platform for this kind of trading.
The beginner may find MT4 less immediately approachable than some of the custom platforms provided by brokers, but it can be a worthwhile experience checking out this platform, which provides scope to the trader to customise their own interaction with trading markets. MT4 provides support for desktop, webtrading, tablet and mobile trading.
Is MT4 only for automated trading ?
MT4 is suited to both discretionary trading and automated trading. For discretionary trading typically 50+ technical indicators are available (more can be added) as well as a range of chart price types and other charting tools. But MT4 also allows the trader to automate their strategy (or use automated strategies designed by other traders).
