Professional Trading Software at Retail Brokers

There is typically a path which traders take, starting from the initial process of learning about trading and finding a broker. However a trader may want to use professional trading tools from the beginning. One way to do this is to use an online trading platform (which is a software program consisting of an interface and a connection to the broker) with plenty of scope to use a wide range of strategies and to choose a broker which supports the potential of such a platform. The platforms on this page allow the trader to start with simple strategies and progress to more advanced techniques, as their experiences increases.

While well designed, simplified web trader trading platforms may be seen as being helpful for the beginner, there is no reason why they cannot be used by the more experienced trader, if they do not wish to use automated trading or access ECN services. This said, some advanced techniques may require the use of a platform such as MT4, MT5, cTrader and JForex. All of these platforms support trading automation. It should be borne in mind that the process of trading involves a number of steps, and the trader may only wish to automate some of these steps, for example automating charting analysis using the AT Pro platform.

More advanced platforms typically come with an expanded set of tools such as technical indicators. However all these platforms consist of the core elements of the chart, charting tools, markets and order information. If the trader specialises in a particular kind of trading they may find some brokers more suitable for this. For example some strategies may need infrastructure provided by ECN brokers. In general more advanced techniques are suited for the more experienced trader.
